Press Release
February 5, 2002 – Bivio Networks Begins Beta Trials of Product That Reduces Network Infrastructure Costs by Two Thirds
Eight Fortune 500, System Integrator and Tier 1 Service Provider Customers in U.S., Europe and Asia To Beta Test Products
PLEASANTON, CALIF. – February
5, 2002 – Responding to the dynamic changes taking
place in the networking industry, Bivio Networks today announced
beta trials with eight Fortune 500, system integrators and tier
1 service provider customers. These customers are evaluating Bivio’s
patent-pending networking device that reduces capital and operational
expenditure costs by two-thirds. To achieve these dramatic economic
improvements, Bivio Networks has invented a new type of network
product that combines the best qualities of a high performance
computer and a gigabit speed network device into an integrated
platform.
The Company also laid out its value proposition and market strategy for both
the enterprise and service provider markets as it moves from product development
to beta stage. Bivio anticipates completing its beta testing phase in the second
quarter of this year and will announce product pricing and availability in
Q2. Initial response from beta test customers has been very positive.
"Our tests indicate that Bivio’s product is exceeding our expectations
for performance and functionality," said Johan Maes, technology manager of the
Telindus Group. "This unique solution consolidates the functionality of a variety
of point products and delivers specialized network services across multiple environments.
We are excited about moving to the next step, deployment of Bivio’s system."
In addition to announcing its strategic direction which focuses on developing
innovative networking solutions that lower the cost of IP network infrastructures,
the Company also announced it has changed its name to Bivio Networks from Network
Robots.
"Given the dramatic shift taking place in the networking industry and the pressure
on customers to lower capital costs, we set out to develop solutions that would
lower the total cost of IP network infrastructures," said Junaid Islam, CEO of
Bivio Networks. "Now, enterprise customers have a solid alternative to purchasing
and maintaining disparate point solutions while gaining needed functionality
and reducing costs. At the same time, service provider customers can easily customize
and expand their network service offerings while generating additional revenue."
THE PROBLEM BIVIO SOLUTIONS SOLVE
Today, enterprise and service provider customers easily spend in excess of
hundreds of thousands of dollars purchasing networking products that provide
routing, security and other required network services. In addition, the costs
associated with integrating and managing a rack of disparate devices can easily
increase that expenditure into the millions.
Bivio Networks is developing a new type of network device that replaces a rack
of network devices and eliminates the need for ASIC-based networking products,
with its ability to simultaneously execute multiple applications (like routing,
firewall, QoS) at true gigabit line rates. At the same time, it dramatically
cuts investment and operational costs by as much as two thirds.
"This is a great time for Bivio to evangelize the industry with a breakthrough
technology whose time has clearly come," said Alex Mendez, chairman of Bivio
Networks and general partner, Storm Ventures. "Beginning this year, we’ll
start to see a resurgence of capital spending in the enterprise. Bivio’s
product is a crossover solution which is ideal for the enterprise and service
provider markets. Both will be looking to new, value-driven technologies that
can deliver the performance they want at the price they need and help them substantially
generate revenue or increase profits."
