BIVIO PARTNER ECOSYSTEM YIELDS NEW APPLICATION ACCELERATION MODULES

New Security and Content Acceleration Modules Highlight Technology Innovation on Bivio’s Network Appliance Platforms

Pleasanton, California – December 6, 2006 –Bivio Networks, the leader in high-speed network appliance platforms for deep packet processing applications, today announced three new partner application acceleration modules for its B2000 and B508 network appliance platforms. The modules, developed with Bivio Partner Ecosystem members Cavium Networks, Kaspersky Lab, and Tarari, Inc., are the first products resulting from the Bivio Partner Ecosystem program. The Partner Ecosystem program, launched in May of this year, provides a framework for hardware and software partners to work together to provide innovative joint products that address emerging, policy-centric enterprise and carrier networking requirements.

“The Bivio Partner Ecosystem augments Bivio’s commitment to an open, extensible, high-performance network appliance platform, while enabling customers to leverage partner technology to develop end-to-end solutions for their own product portfolios and deliver products more quickly,” said Elan Amir, president and CEO of Bivio. “Bivio’s platform combines a scalable, multiprocessor architecture with an open software platform that includes a standard Linux-based execution environment. The Partner Ecosystem provides a go-to-market vehicle for software and hardware partners, and allows us to incorporate critical networking and packet inspection functions into the platform, such as those announced today, developed in cooperation with Cavium Networks, Kaspersky Lab, and Tarari.”

Application Acceleration for Multi-Gigabit Environments
Bivio’s new modules enable application developers to quickly integrate high-performance cryptographic and content processing applications into Bivio’s network appliance platforms, offloading specific compute-intensive and repetitive tasks to maximize overall system performance.

The new partner application acceleration modules offered by Bivio include the following:

  • Tarari Content Acceleration Module, based on Tarari’s T9000 technology, is optimized for the most CPU-intensive algorithms found in Regular Expression (RegEx) processing and other processes critical to anti-virus, anti-spam, intrusion prevention and detection (IPS/IDS), and unified threat management (UTM) applications implemented on Bivio platforms. Ecosystem vendor Kaspersky Lab developed and pre-integrated its SafeStream technology with the Tarari Content Acceleration module. OEM customers who purchase a license agreement from Kaspersky Lab receive regular, automatic database updates as new virus definitions become available.
  • Cavium Cryptographic Acceleration Module, based on Cavium’s “NITROX Lite” CN1010 technology, is optimized for cryptographic functions and secure protocol processing—including SSL, IPsec, and WLAN security acceleration—providing high-performance bulk data encryption, secure session, or handshake setup with multi-algorithm support. The NITROX Lite CN1010 can encrypt or decrypt up to 1Gbps of bulk IPsec, SSL, and WLAN traffic using 3DES, AES, or ARC4 and/or simultaneously perform up to 7000 RSA 1024bit or 12000 Diffie-Hellman 180bit operations used in SSL and IKE session setups.
  • Tarari/Cavium Multi-Function Acceleration Module includes both the CN1010 and T9000 processors to deliver the most diversified application processing functionality.

The three new application accelerator modules are compatible with both the B2000 and B508 network appliance platforms, and are available now.

“Bivio’s advanced Linux-based platform, in conjunction with Tarari’s T9000 ASIC technology, expands the capabilities and the performance levels of the network infrastructure,” said Randy Smerik, president, CEO, and co-founder of Tarari, Inc. “The addition of the Tarari capabilities to the Bivio appliance platform shortens the time to market for complete solutions from NEMs, ISVs, and SIs, allowing them to address their customer’s requirements more efficiently and with less risk.”

“The combination of Kaspersky’s industry-leading, stream–based, high-speed anti-malware technology with Bivio’s scaleable network appliance platform will create unique, pre-integrated solutions for network-level malware protection at gigabit speed and beyond,” said Vitaly Bezrodnykh, director of business development of Kaspersky Lab. “Service providers, network operators, large enterprises, and other organizations with high-speed networks can now deploy critical virus and malware protection at the network level, without sacrificing network performance or their investment budgets.”

“Cavium Networks is the market leading security processor vendor today,” said Amer Haider, director of strategic marketing and ecosystem development, Cavium Networks. “We’re happy to work with Bivio to offer the NITROX Lite for accelerating IPsec, SSL, or WLAN security protocols on Bivio’s network appliance platforms.”
