Bivio Networks Launches Bivio 2000 Multiservice Appliance for Groundbreaking Deep Packet Handling and Performance

Latest Bivio Programmable Network Appliance Features Three-Fold Increase in Performance for Multi-Gigabit Throughput and Total Service Flexibility

PLEASANTON, CA (PRWEB) December 13, 2004 – Bivio Networks™, a leading supplier of next generation packet handling platforms, today announced the launch of the Bivio 2000™, a groundbreaking network appliance optimized for wire-speed execution of emerging network services that require deep packet processing with high network throughput. The Bivio 2000 platform builds on the proven Bivio architecture and extends Bivio’s performance and scaling capabilities by tripling system performance in the same footprint.

Through the implementation of Bivio 2000 platform, Bivio OEM partners can dramatically accelerate the delivery of critical next generation IP service applications such as security, traffic management, load balancing, performance monitoring, routing and communications infrastructure through a proven architecture that offers unparalleled scalability and performance. The Bivio 2000 delivers true Gigabit performance for any service and any packet size, vastly outperforming traditional appliance technologies.

In comparative performance tests, the Bivio architecture is the only one to accelerate off-the-shelf deep packet processing applications such as firewall, VPN, routing, intrusion detection/prevention and QoS to true multi-Gigabit throughput. “Many high-speed packet handling solutions claim Gigabit performance but fail to deliver true Gigabit performance when deployed in real-world networking environments consisting of heavy session loads, small packet sizes, and complex processing,” said Elan Amir, president and CEO of Bivio Networks. “The Bivio 2000 offers a way around existing bottlenecks with a new model that offers uncompromising performance and unmatched flexibility to the marketplace.”

The Bivio 2000 platform addresses a packet handling market that is expected to exceed $10 billion by 2007 and is facing increasing bandwidth demands with the emergence of Gigabit Ethernet combined with the requirements of top packet handling applications. “Through a powerful combination of 3D Networking, involving scalable deep packet inspection, network bandwidth, and service agility, Bivio is in a unique position to address this multi-billion dollar market,” added Amir.

The Bivio 2000 features Gigabit throughput performance to ensure that all deep packet handling services on all interfaces are processed at line rate. The platform also offers scalable application processing allowing customers to scale application and session performance as necessary for multiple applications or to dedicate more processing power to any application.

The Bivio 2000 is highly available to eliminate any single point of failure to deliver non-stop services, and highly programmable to port any network application to the platform. The system enables advanced traffic management in the form of hierarchical traffic and user class prioritization and bandwidth shaping by flow, customer, or traffic basis.

"Bivio provides an appealing proposition to OEM partners who will be more equipped to achieve disruptive improvements in performance, cost, and service capabilities as they build out the emerging networking infrastructure," said Deborah Kish, an analyst at Gartner’s Public Network Infrastructure Group.

The main components of the Bivio 2000 are an improved Application Processor Card (APC), a Network Processor Card (NPC), Network Interface Modules (NIM) and redundant power supplies. The system is a 2U appliance that is entirely programmable using Bivio’s software development kit and application programmable interface.

The Bivio 2000, available immediately, starts at $20,000.
