PLEASANTON, CALIF. - December 15, 2003 – Bivio Networks™, a leading supplier of secure IP-service platforms, today announced the availability of the Bivio 1000E and Bivio 1000ES, expanding the company’s security product line. Both platforms incorporate Bivio’s revolutionary eXpressLANE™ packet processing technology and are targeted at medium-size businesses and IT infrastructures. Like the larger-scale Bivio 1000, the Bivio 1000E achieves leading performance at all packet sizes and session rates. Bivio’s unique architecture enables acceleration of security applications such as Check Point’s FireWall-1® and VPN-1®.

The Bivio 1000E system delivers uncompromising performance and unmatched flexibility for security applications. For example, the Bivio 1000E delivers ASIC-like performance with Check Point FireWall-1 software, 100% throughput at 1 Gbps for 64 byte packets. In addition, the system delivers future value by enabling application processing system upgrades and new security services to be added via remote software downloads.
The Bivio 1000E system hardware includes the multi-gigabit eXpressLANE™ Processor module, an Application Processor module, power supply and modular network interfaces. The system is a 2 rack-unit device that minimizes initial capital outlay and delivers 1 Gbps of throughput. The Bivio 1000E is available with preloaded security software applications including Check Point’s FireWall-1® and VPN-1® solutions for immediate implementation.
The Bivio 1000ES incorporates 1-for-1 redundant system elements, an HA computing architecture and industry standard VRRP protocol to deliver best-in-class high availability. The system contains two eXpressLANE™ Processors, two Application Processors, four network interface modules, dual power supplies, and dual fans offering complete system redundancy. Active/Active and Active/Standby communication between system elements is accomplished via Bivio’s Virtual Rack™ technology and the industry standard VRRP protocol enabling confident network implementations.
Performance of the Bivio 1000ES is 2 times that of the Bivio 1000E in the active/active configuration, delivering 2 Gbps of throughput at 1518 byte packets with FireWall-1. Performance at small packet sizes rivals that of ASIC-based systems. For example, throughput for 64 byte packets is 2 Gbps, 100% of maximum, an industry first with Check Point’s software.
